Matters of the Heart

I bought this book last March and didn't get a chance to read it. It was written by Danielle Steel, my most favorite author, next to Judith McNaught, Nicholas Spark and Sophie Kinsella. It only took me 2 days to finish it because the story was so great that I only read it at night, so that I won't be disturbed by the kids whilst reading the book. It felt like I was watching a movie, every time I read a great book.

The story was about a woman falling deeply and madly in love with a sociopath. She didn't know that he was a sociopath until she discovered the lies that he had told her, one by one. I won't give anymore details as I don't want to ruin other people's reading this book.

After finishing the book last night, I quickly googled about sociopath criminals and I was shocked to find out that there are so many sociopath criminals in this world particularly in the U.S! I gave a deep thought on some crime cases in Malaysia, especially those on kidnapping, sexual abusing and murdering children, and I can see the pattern of a sociopath killer in these cases. Not that I'm some kind of a detective but, if you read this book and make more research on sociopath criminals, you can see what I meant.

According to wikipedia:
sociopath is somebody who exhibits sociopathy, who behaves in a way that suggests a lack of conscience. Unlike the average human, a sociopath does not feel any sense of guilt or remorse when committing morally wrong actions or actions that their society deems unacceptable. Because of this utter lack of fear for the sanctions of society, sociopaths take advantage of the social system and use manipulation and amoral behaviors to obtain their goals. The types of behaviors they exhibit are those that would make someone with a conscience uncomfortable.

The target of a sociopath is usually those people who are lonely and easily trusting other people, no question asked. And with modern technologies like internet and social networking, there are more and more victim of sociopath, due to the excitement of meeting new people especially from other countries. My best advice is, please be careful when meeting new friend, especially virtually because a sociopath is not someone to be mess around and they are usually undetectable!

The Help

Here's my review on this new novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  I finished reading it last week and true to the comments and reviews from the book about the book, I pushed myself to read it up to 2 am in the morning because that is the only time I can read without any interruption from my children!

SO, here's a basic synopsis of The Help that I took from Wikipedia so that you will have an idea about the story line:

The novel is told from the perspective of three characters: Aibileen Clark, a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson, an African-American maid who has often offended her employers despite her family's struggles with money and her desperate need for jobs; and Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating college to find out her childhood maid has mysteriously disappeared. These three stories intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around "the help"; yet they are always kept at a certain distance because of racial lines.

After reading it, I was so inspired by the black maids because they were really sincere on doing their jobs as maids or helper. Not like people nowadays, they are not doing their jobs to perfection, even though their jobs requires them to sit in a well air-cond room and work. Reading this novel always inflicts something in me because it seems like my daily chores really resembles the chores that had to be done by the black helpers and looking at my hand right now, you can see that it's not as soft as other woman's hand where it's hard and coarse by detergents, water and stuffs. But I do not regret my choice of being a full time housewife and mother to 5 children (and still counting) and I think of it as a blessing of my life. I secretly hope and think of opening The Help agency where I 'll teach local ladies to do house chores efficiently and cook nice foods. But that's just a dream. Who wants to work for other people, cleaning their houses, doing laundries, taking of their children and at the end of the day, coming back to their own family and tending her family's need. Hmm...

Anyway, I give this novel the rating of 10 out of 10  because of its marvelous story and it didn't fail to inflict many emotions from me while reading it. A DEFINITE BUY and as the phrase on the cover of the novel says: IF YOU ONLY READ ONE BOOK, LET THIS BE IT!

P.S:  I'm so excited to know that a movie based on this novel is due to be play next year! Hurrah!

Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger

I've finished reading this book yesterday and what a novel! It's beautifully written and it never failed to hook me! There were some parts that made me stop breathing while reading it but I won't tell why cause that is a spoiler and a major no-no for ruining your upcoming experience in reading it (definitely a worth buy!). At the last page of the novel, I cried! Becoming a mother to 5 kids at the age of 28 had made me such a softie and I always cry watching something or reading something that touched my heart, especially if it's about children or love. Hahahaha... How did I came across this book? I read the comments and reviews in the book and it is so tempting, plus the gold high heel on the cover. So, rush to the bookstore, buy it and start reading it! Enjoy!

Madeleine Wickham

Now, I'm reading Cocktails For Three by Madeleine Wickham, also known as Sophie Kinsella. I bought the book before I gave birth to my fifth baby but still not yet finishing it because the story line was a little bit slow compared to her Shopaholic Series. I still have one more of her novel waiting to be read, The Gatecrasher (it's my sisters). I'm hoping to finish Cocktails for Three as soon as possible.

Anyway, Sophie Kinsella's newest novel fron her Shopaholic series is out, Mini Shopaholic. Can't wait to read it but have to wait for my birthday next month because I've ask my sister to buy it for me as a birthday present (such a bully!). Hahahahah... to my dearest sister: I think you don't have to wait for my birthday! Just send it over (she's working in KL).
